Former Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma today said that the money meant to ensure the complete separation of the judiciary from the executive has been diverted.
“The building for the judiciary in the District Sessions Judge’s court is not moving at all and the High Court should take cognisance of this matter,” Dr Sangma said today.
He said that the police reform is part of the administrative reform and the Police Act 2010 is the offshoot of that reform but is now being trampled upon.
“The Meghalaya police organisation is one of the most efficient to date but the fact is that there has been complete manipulation in the matter of posting and transfer of the police officers. People who are committed and have the spirit of true professionalism to fulfil their responsibility have been systematically sidelined, which is a dangerous trend,” he said. “Our police have been provided training by some of the best trainers but if you decide to use them for something else then God save Meghalaya.”
Stating that the state government is taking Meghalaya towards a disastrous future and is not sensitive to the call of duty, he asked, “How Drishti Rajkhowa (the ULFA militant leader who was hiding in Meghalaya) surrender without arms and ammunition and where are all the youth who have been groomed and nurtured by Drishti Rajkhowa, including boys from Bangladesh who followed him with sophisticated arms and ammunition? Maybe Conrad Sangma did not even know that Rajkhowa was here or had surrendered.”
When asked about the peace talks with the outlawed HNLC, Dr Sangma stated that the government has to be transparent because the opposition does not even know the administration’s stand.
