A day after he managed to escape mob fury in Shangpung, West Jaiñtia Hills where other four prison escapees were lynched, fugitive Ramesh Dkhar was caught by villagers of Thadmuthlong who later handed him over to police.
Dkhar was spotted by the villagers in a jungle area in Shangpung Thadmuthlong. Armed with sticks, the villagers managed to catch him and took him to the police at Phra Mer.
Luckily, the villagers did not thrash him. In the visuals that went viral, some villagers were heard saying, “He’s so lucky. If he was there yesterday we would have finished him off too.”
It may be mentioned that a mob armed with sticks lynched four jail escapees who were hiding at a jungle area in Shangpung yesterday at around 3 pm.
Among those killed by the mob included I Love You Talang, Lodestar Tang, Shidor Dkhar and Marsanki Tariang.
Tariang was serving a jail term after having been convicted for murdering his wife by setting her on fire.
The dead were among the six prisoners who had escaped from Jowai jail on August 10 after attacking and overpowering the guards.
Meanwhile, another jail escapee Rikmenlang Lamare who was not with the group is on the run. Police are yet to trace his whereabouts.
