Saksham 2022, a drive to reduce the use of petroleum and other fuels, was launched in the state today by East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Isawanda Laloo.
India imports almost all of its petroleum and fuel use reduction would help the country save on spending crucial foreign currency reserves, as well as be better for the environment. Global fuel prices have risen sharply since the start of Russia’s war in Ukraine and such increases could lead to rampant inflation.
The price of petrol in Shillong recently touched Rs 100 per litre.
In her speech to the gathering of around 150 people, including college students, Laloo urged all concerned to turn fuel use reduction into a way of life.
