Rotary Club of Orchid City Shillong organised a plantation drive under ‘Project Hariyali Trees for Future’, sponsored by Mahindra Finance at St Joseph Higher Secondary School, Umden, Ri-Bhoi last week.
Under the initiative, more than 200 fruit tree saplings (peach, plum, etc) were planted.
Deputy Commissioner Arpit Upadhaya, joined the green movement as the chief guest. A team from Mahindra Finance’s Nongpoh branch, led by Uttam Khanal, members of the Rotary Club Shillong, led by president Devesh Walia, Fr Glorias and other members of St Joseph’s along with students participated in the movement aimed to save the environment and increase the green scene.
Project Hariyali was launched this year July 28 at Khliehtyrshi village in collaboration with Rotary Club of Jowai and Khliehtryshi Dorbar Shnong. A mega plantation drive was then organised at Nongkhlaw village. Under this project, more focus is on the caring of planted young trees by engaging active participation from members of the community.
