From January 1 FASTag, the National Electronic Toll Collection programme will be implemented across India, including Meghalaya.
Fees for passing through toll gates on national highways will be collected through the FASTag system from this date. Paying with hard cash will still be allowed, but drivers opting to do so will have to cough up double the amount.
FASTag is a sticker to be pasted on a car’s windshield, allowing for automatic electronic collection of tolls. As the vehicle passes through the toll booth, the FASTag is automatically scanned and the toll fee deducted. This should allow for seamless, delay-free passage of vehicles.
