Fraudsters have allegedly impersonated former Inspector General of Prisons Mariahom Kharkrang on Facebook with the intention of scamming individuals of money.
Kharkrang, who retired early from the police force and subsequently joined politics, has written a complaint to police that an unknown person, or persons, has created a fake Facebook profile using his name and photo.
“Later, the said person/persons started contacting people offering goods for sale,” Kharkrang, who has warned his friends and followers on his official Facebook account about the scam, said in the complaint. “The motive of the act is to carry out criminal acts and for cheating.”
