Fratricidal war seems in the offing as the Hynñiewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) vowed to come down heavily on two former surrendered colleagues for allegedly working with the police to bring about the death of the former general secretary, Cheristerfield Thangkhiew.
The state home minister Lahkmen Rymbui would not be spared either for without his green signal this would not have happened, it said.
Reacting to the incident a statement issued by the spokesman of the HNLC Sainkupar Nongtraw in the Khasi language said, “Ka Seng ka lah rai ba kan kput ia u Herman, U Treng khamtam ia u Lakmen Rymbui, namar khlem ka jongaibor jong u kan nym jia haduh ba u briew un da iap.” (translation: The organization has vowed to come down heavily on Herman, U Treng, moreover on Lakmen Rymbui, because without his authority they would not go to the extent of causing the death of the man).
It called on the other surrendered militants, NGOs and commoners to remove themselves from the company of these two persons named by them warning all that they would not be responsible for anything that happened to them if they persisted in continuing to have any relationship with them. The statement further said they “are watching how long Rymbui will sit on that chair.”
