The Garo Hills unit of the All Meghalaya Fourth Teachers Association have expressed their continuing unhappiness regarding the lack of action by the Meghalaya government.
In a statement today, the association said that a Right to Information (RTI) request showed that the Director of School Education and Literacy had submitted proposals for enhancement of the teachers’ salaries but the teachers were still paid only Rs 12,000 per month.
The DSEL had made such proposals in 2017, 2018 and December 2020.
With no enhancement in their pay, teachers are suffering as the cost of essentials has risen over the years, association secretary Jekiush T Sangma said.
Despite doing as much work as other teachers, the fourth teachers are still only drawing Rs 12,000 per month while assistant SSA teachers get Rs 20,493.
