The new edition of the Bible in Khasi language was released for the Diocese of Jowai yesterday at the Cathedral of St. Theresa of Lisieux, Jowai by Rev. Fr. Ferdinand Dkhar, Diocesan Administrator of Jowai Diocese.
Secretary of the Bible Commission Jowai Diocese Fr. Manbha Pakem informed that although the Catholic editions of parts of the Bible, the Old and New Testament in Khasi was made available, the first Catholic Edition of complete Bible in Khasi was release in 1979.
There was a revised edition in 1993 and reprinted in 2006, he said in a statement today. Besides, the pocket size and students editions of the New Testament a copy of the Bible or New Testament has become a treasured personal possession of many.
The Bible released yesterday is the fourth corrected edition that was released on September 25 at the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians, Laitumkhrah by Archbishop Victor Lyngdoh.
The subsidized rate has been made possible by the generosity of the Catholic Fund Agency based in Germany, Pakem said.
This Catholic edition of the Bible will be use by the Khasi speaking Catholic communities in the Archdiocese of Shillong, Diocese of Jowai, Nongstoiñ, Aizawl and Diphu and in parts of Bangladesh.
The Khasi Population in North India and Bangladesh is 15, 01, 852 which includes the Catholic number about 6, 25, 040, he added.
