Police have arrested four persons in connection with the physical assaults on pedestrians and commuters during the unemployment rally organised by the FKJGP in the city on October 28.
This was informed by East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Sylvester Nongtnger today. He however did not reveal the name of the arrested persons.
According to Nongtnger, police after identifying the culprits conducted several raids on the intervening night of yesterday and today in East Khasi Hills and Ri Bhoi district and arrested four persons “directly involved in the assaults” while others have fled to evade arrest.
The arrested have been booked under various charges in Laitumkhrah police station and Shillong Sadar police stations.
The SP said that the arrested persons have been booked in Laitumkhrah PS Case No. 150 (10) 22 under Sections 324/34/341/ 353/ 505/ 506 of IPC and Shillong Sadar PS Case No. 246 (10) 22 U/S 120B/ 323 /34/ 341/ 353 /427/505/506 of IPC read with Section 3 of Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.
“Efforts are on by the district police to arrest all those involved in the assaults,” Nongtnger said.
However, the FKJGP said that two of the arrested are its members. They are Gary Nelson Thangkhiew from Mawlai and Dapkmen Syiemiong from Jaiaw Langsning.
