East Khasi Hills police arrested four persons for looting a tourist family on Sunday, while they were out for dinner in a restaurant at Mawblei.
The accused are Champhrang Nangkiew Sutnga of Mawblei, Wanjop Kharumnuid of Laitkor Nonglum, Albertstar Kharhujon of Umphyrnai and Michael Nongrum of Demthring Block A.
Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said the accused had stolen away their luggage containing cash Rs 50,000 and an IPhone 13.
According to a complaint lodged at Madanrting police station, the tourist, Jay Nand Kishore and family along with another newlywed couple, who are tourists from Mumbai had parked their Innova near Mahindra Showroom, Mawblei and went to the By the Way restaurant for dinner, only to find that the window glass of the car was broke and the items stolen.
Following the complaint, the Madanrting Special Party launched a search, arrested the accused and recovered all the items and cash.
