Four children died after a house collapsed due to heavy rainfall in Laitlarem, Nongspung circle under Mawphlang C&RD block today.
The victims are identified as Wallambiang Kharmyndai (9), Banlumlang Kharmyndai (6), Ribhalin Kharmyndai (4) and Daphilari Kharmyndai (8)
The injured are Nikstanlang Jyrwa (36) and Banteilang Kharmyndai (12). They are getting medical attention at Mawphlang CHC.
East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, Isawanda Laloo informed that while three of them died on the spot one succumbed to injuries while on the way to Sohiong CHC.
She said the BDO, medical officer and police are at the spot as more details are awaited.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma while extending his condolences to the family said a relief of Rs 4 lakhs will be released to the next of kin of each of the deceased.
