Four youth have so far been arrested for their involvement in three incidents of assaults in the city on June 24.
According to police, on that day a group of several bikers assaulted a traffic policeman on being stopped at SD Khongwir junction, Mawlai Iewrynghep for not wearing helmets.
On their way back they assaulted a Swiggy delivery boy near Mahari Petrol Pump, Jaiaw and later headed towards Jaiaw Pdeng.
They then stopped at ES Restaurant at Jaiaw Pdeng and assaulted two interns from Kerala identified as Rejaz M. Sydeek and Sarath S. Thambi.
Two FIRs were filed at Lumdiengjri Police Station in connection with the assault of the Swiggy delivery boy and the two interns from Kerala.
One FIR was filed at Mawlai Police Station in connection with the assault of the traffic policeman.
Based on the identification through various sources, four of the miscreants have been arrested so far.
Following their interrogation, their involvement has been confirmed. Police also said that they are on the job to apprehend the rest of the attackers.
The four have been produced in court today and an initial five days police remand has been sought for.
The arrested youth have been charged by Lumdiengjri police under Sections 341, 324, 427, 34 of IPC and also Sections 341, 506, 324 and 34 of IPC. Further, they have been charged by Mawlai police under Sections 353, 323, 427 and 34 of IPC.
It may be mentioned that many cases of assaults on non-tribals have been reported in the recent past in Jaiaw especially Jaiaw Pdeng.
Local residents said that such lawlessness has brought a bad name to Jaiaw even as they also said that they fear for their children studying or working outside the State.
The residents have suggested strengthening of the police intelligence network in the entire Jaiaw area in order to thwart such incidents and identify persons involved in such assault cases.
