Shillong, Jul 27: On the occasion of the 10th death anniversary of the former President of India, the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Foundation organised a seminar and poets’ meet on the life and contribution of Kalam.
The former President died in Shillong on July 27, 2015 while in the city for a lecture at IIM Shillong.
The foundation also held a prize distribution ceremony for its inter-school competition at the U Soso Tham Auditorium here.
BDR Tiwari, Commissioner and Secretary, was the chief guest and Munish Singh, Regional Director of the ICCR, was guest of honour. Other poets and teachers, etc were also present.
Songs and speeches were delivered and a book by AM Kharbamon, My Encounter With the Missile Man of India was released during the function.
The Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Award was bestowed on Padmashree Silbi Passah, Adorable Kharbamon, Kalpana Roy and Manisha Sharma.
Selected students were presented with scholarships of Rs 2,000 and prizes were distributed for the art, model, craft, quiz and essay competitions held last month for this occasion.
