Former Meghalaya Director General of Police, Anil Pradhan passed away at Escorts-Fortis Heart Hospital in Okhla, New Delhi today morning at 6 am.
He was hospitalised since February 2 with existing heart and lung problems. He later contracted Covid-19 and succumbed to the virus.
Pradhan’s last rites will be performed in Delhi after the arrival of his son from London.
The former IPS officer of the 1977 Assam-Meghalaya cadre is survived by his wife, a son and daughter and grandchildren.
Pradhan, an alumnus of Hindu College, Delhi, had served as Superintendent of Police, West Jaintia Hills and West Garo Hills.
He later joined the Intelligence Bureau, Delhi before returning to the State to serve in the Special Branch and Fire & Emergency Service, and also as Inspector General of Prisons.
He served as DGP of Meghalaya from May 18, 2009 till August 4, 2009.
Pradhan was also the Managing Director of Meghalaya Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) for a brief period.
He was a member of the governing body of NEIGHRIMS, active member of the Rotary Club and also served as the Special Rapporteur of the National Human Rights Commission, Delhi in-charge of North East.
