Shillong and the radio fraternity lost its fun inimitable voice in RJ Kit, a former presenter and entertainer of Red FM today.
Kitbok Phankon, known best as RJ Kit has a knack to draw listeners from every nook and corners of the Khasi-Jaiñtia Hills through his wit and unique presentation style.
Kitbok was born in Shillong on August 2, 1983 and joined the private radio station in 2008 until he decided to resign in April last year due to ill health.
Desmond R Sunn, an RJ of the station remembered him “a natural born talented RJ with a great sense of humour. His witty jokes and funny dialogues have attracted many listeners during his years in Red FM for 11 years.”
Soon after his demise, a pal of gloom descended on the radio fraternity. His former colleagues, fans and loyal listeners took to social media to condole the former RJ’s death.
His former fellow presenter Wari Lyngwa said working together was “pure joy and fun”. She said he was gifted and talented and that space in Red FM was perfect for him.
“You will be missed deeply Kit, you have always been that one person who would lighten up the room even when one is having a bad day… even then in the midst of your struggles you always showed how positive and strong you are…” Annie Nongbet a former colleague wrote.
A fan wrote, “The sweetest thing about RJ Kitbok Phankon is that he is a humble person though I never knew him personally except that he’s an RJ. Your work and entertainment will forever be remembered.”
Kitbok left behind his wife and four children. His funeral will be held tomorrow at the Laitumkhrah Catholic cemetery.
