Former Chief Executive Member of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and veteran politician from Ri-Bhoi, Rangkynsai R Makdoh today announced that he has resigned from the National People’s Party (NPP) in favour of the United Democratic Party (UDP).
Makdoh was formerly of the Congress Party. He quit the Congress at the same time as DD Lapang, in 2018, and joined the NPP. He had, however, been a strong supporter of Jason Sawkmie Mawlong, of the People’s Democratic Front (PDF), who went on to win the Umsning seat that year.
Speaking to reporters at his home in Mawtnum village, Makdoh said that his reasons for leaving the NPP are personal and that he would rather choose a regional party now. He added that the UDP will bring a positive change for the indigenous people of the state if they win the next state election.
