Mawkyrwat, Aug 30: The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP), South East Khasi Border circle has urged authorities to address the deplorable condition of the Weiloi-Balat Road.
Circle president Kyrmen Shangdiar noted that the road had deteriorated severely hampering transportation for locals. He said coke-laden trucks have caused excessive strain on the road up to Umpung bridge.
Following a visit to the area the organisation also met with Block Development Officer (BDO), Mawsynram C&RD Block with suggestions to limit the number of trucks to about 10 per day and to restrict timings.
The FKJGP urged the BDO to strictly ensure that coke-laden trucks don’t exceed transporting limit of nine tonnes and the PWD to erect signboards.
