Shillong, Aug 4: The Federation of Khasi, Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) conducted a series of surprise checks on trading licences for non-tribal shopkeepers in the Ranikor civil sub-division area.
The pressure group found several shops operating without valid trading licences and forced their closure. The FKJGP also claimed to have discovered pharmacies operating without the requisite licences.
The organisation also expressed concern over the potential for illegal entry of foreigners into the area, especially in light of Assam’s drive to evict illegal settlers in the neighbouring state. Taking matters further into its own hands, the FKJGP has decided to set up a check gate in the Ranikor area to monitor and prevent the illegal entry of foreigners.
