The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) announced today that it will hold a public rally on October 21 to protest against youth unemployment in the state.
Addressing reporters, FKJGP president Dundee Khongsit said that the rally will start from Motphran and culminate at Malki Ground.
The pressure group claims that approximately 1.6 lakh youths are unemployed in the state. Khongsit criticised the state government for what he said was wasting public money by appointing numerous consultants from outside Meghalaya with no clear indication of the benefits that these appointments have brought.
“All we see is the opposition raising these issues in the Assembly and the government clarifying about the various unfilled sanctioned posts but nothing changes while the backdoor appointments continue,” he said.
FKJGP has also expressed its opposition against contractual posts. Khongsit said that they want to send a strong message to the government that they should do away with contractual posts because the employees are not provided with job security.
