FKJGP general secretary, Dundee Cliff Khongsit has criticised the State government yesterday for shelling out funds to assist surrendered militants instead of support Meghalaya’s athletes.
At the closing function of the 4th District Level Wushu Championship in Ri-Bhoi district held yesterday, Khongsit expressed concern that talented athletes are not provided with enough assistance by the government, which is, instead, spending money on surrendered militants’ rehabilitation packages.
“If the State government provided assistance to the surrendered militants by offering rehabilitation packages to encourage them to surrender why is special assistance not provided to the sportsmen of the state?” Khongsit asked.
“Many youths who are very honest and talented in different fields of sports are neglected and they can’t reach their goal as there is no encouragement and special assistance provided by the government.”
Office bearers of the Wushu association lamented that it has to bear the expenses of travel and accommodation of the martial artists without aid from the government.
