Jowai, Mar 27: The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) held a rally-cum-public meeting in Jowai today to demand an early resolution to the long-pending border dispute between Meghalaya and Assam.
The meeting was organised by the West Jaintia Hills unit after the organisation held two such meetings in Ri Bhoi and West Khasi Hills districts.
The FKJGP leaders said a big meeting is planned in Shillong to highlight the issue which remained unsettled for over 50 years.
Speakers at the rally criticised the state government for the prolonged delay stating that talks of resolving the border issue are political rhetoric during elections.
Village leaders of Lapangap, Mukroh and those of the Coordination Committee on International Border (CCIB) and Hynniewtrep Border Dispute Redressal Forum stressed the need for a time-bound approach to protect the interests and land rights of the residents in the affected areas.
