The Federation of Khasi, Jaiñtia and Garo People (FKJGP) has complained to the East Jaiñtia Hills Deputy Commissioner about the number of overloaded trucks carrying boulders or limestone on National Highway 6.
“This kind of transportation hampers and makes the road dilapidated and creates so much of hardship to daily commuters,” the FKJGP’s district unit said, adding that the road was constructed to carry 9 tonnes “but these trucks are carrying more than the stipulated tonnage, thereby causing heavy damage to the road pavement and also the surface.”
The authorities are also slow to fix the road when it gets damaged, so the FKJGP feels that it would be better on the whole for the damage not to occur and that requires action to prevent overloaded trucks from using the highway.
