The Federation of Khasi Jaiñtia and Garo People (FKJGP), South Eastern Zone has sought upgrade of the check point in Hat Mawdon to a police outpost to counter trans-border crimes and prevent cross-border movement of criminals.
The need for the upgrade was raised by the organisation after its recent visit to Hat Mawdon and Ryngku village situated along the Indo-Bangladesh border on October 2. The members of the FKJGP, Mawsynram Block and Tyrsad Circle led by their general secretary, Kyrmen Shangdiar also met the myntris, sordars and rangbah shnongs to discuss on illegal entry of Bangladeshis.
Reacting to the arrest of 19 illegal Bangladeshis by the BSF for crossing the international border undocumented through an unfenced area at Rynku recently, the FKJGP said besides the BSF it should be the duty of the government to be watchful and take stern measures to curb illegal entry of Bangladeshis, as people are not secure because of thefts, destruction of plantations and other crimes happening in the international border.
