The Federation of Khasi Jaiñtia and Garo People (FKJGP), Garo Hills zone today met the State Bank of India regional branch manager in Tura with a demand to set up examination centres for SBI jobs in the Garo Hills region.
“SBI is the bank that covers the whole map of India and has accelerated the number of branches across the NE region. This has been the same case in the Garo Hills region as well,” said FKJGP general secretary, Raksrang Sangma.
He stated that SBI has a huge number of employees and continues to require more people on the job as adverts are being noticed on a regular basis every year.
“There are plenty of candidates that are eligible from the Garo Hills region. However the state has only two SBI banking exam centres one in Shillong Bara Bazar and another at the Ramakrishna Mission Shillong. Applicants from Garo Hills face immense hardship due to non-availability of the SBI banking exam centre in the region,” added Raksrang.
He said that the setting up of centres in Garo Hills would be of immense help to locals as it would cut out their travel time as well as save money.
“Due to financial constraints, many job aspirants are unable to go to Shillong to write the exams. Most of the applicants are from the rural section so it becomes immensely difficult for them. In the interest of the people here in Garo Hills, we demand the set up an SBI examination centre in Tura and another in the other districts,” added Raksrang.
