The Federation of Khasi Jaiñtia & Garo People (FKJGP) has called on all the public representatives to ensure that police officials responsible for killing the ex-HNLC leader, Cheristerfield Thangkhiew should be punished as per law.
The organisation said it is unhappy with the inquiry report because names of the witnesses were omitted when it was placed in the Assembly yesterday.
“Why are the names hidden? The government delayed the report which was submitted since May by placing it in the Assembly after four months. This will have caused resentment among the people and the organisation, which might trigger public unrest, which the government will be held responsible,” FKJGP president Dundee Cliff Khongsit said in a statement.
The FKJGP further said that persons responsible for the act should be brought to justice as law makers cannot be law breakers.
Justice T Vaiphei who headed the enquiry into an encounter killing of Thangkhiew has stated that his death was caused by “thoughtless and excessive use of force” by police and termed police raid at his house as a “botched operation”.
