Shillong, Aug 10: The Chibinang unit of the Federation of Khasi, Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) has raised the deplorable state of National Highway 127B, known as the AMPT Road.
“Each time a new road is sanctioned and constructed, the public only benefits from a smooth surface for two to three months before it begins to break apart and dismantle on its own. This recurring failure clearly reflects substandard work and lack of accountability from the contractors involved,” the pressure group said.
The FKJGP demanded that the state government take immediate action to blacklist all previous contractors “responsible for such poor-quality work” and ensure that future contracts are awarded to local tribal contractors rather than outside companies. “This will help guarantee better quality and responsibility in execution,” it added, while calling for the road’s immediate repair.
