Shillong, Jul 3: Five young men were assaulted by a group of around 20 at Lawsohtun today with the assailants using rods, sticks and bamboos to cause them bodily harm.
As per police reports, the incident happened after midday today at Lawsohtun Block VI at a basketball ground in the locality.
“Aridam Das (22) of Laban, Subharshi Das Purkayastha (22) and Saptarshi (20) of Laban Last Stop, Pinak Deb (23) of Mawbah and Bishal Ghosh (24) of Lachumiere have been going to the basketball field for the last two weeks to play,” Assistant Inspector General of Police, Gabriel Ïangrai said today.
He also said that when the young men were playing today, around 20 boys arrived at the basketball field and assaulted them with iron rods, sticks and bamboo.
With the young men sustaining substantial injuries, they have been taken to Woodland Hospital for medical care after which they were discharged.
Meanwhile, the parents of the young men have filed a FIR on the incident and police are presently investigating the case.
