Shillong, Mar 28: Five students have been selected to represent the state at the national level youth parliament to be held in New Delhi next month.
Riwaka Tangsong and Rabeclyne Kharbyngar (East Khasi Hills), Sengrimchi Marak (East Garo Hills), Pynhiammiki Ryngksai (East Khasi Hills), and Riakor Lyngdoh Nonglait (Eastern West Khasi Hills) won the state level youth parliament festival, which was held at the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly hall today.
The festival was organised by the My Bharat Meghalaya on the theme, ‘Union Budget 2026: Strengthening the Indian Youth’s Path towards Viksit Bharat 2047’.
Participants took part in vibrant discussions, demonstrating strong oratory skills and presenting thoughtful perspectives on issues affecting their communities.
The event aimed to foster dialogue, leadership, and civic engagement among youth, offering a platform for them to voice their ideas and contribute to nation-building.
Speaking at the inaugural session, Ampati MLA Miani D. Shira emphasised the importance of such platforms in nurturing young leaders. She encouraged participants to remain authentic and speak from the heart.
“At the end of the day, whatever comes from within will speak louder than anything that you’ve prepared or are made to say,” she stated. She highlighted that such exercises help young people understand the perspectives of legislators and the rationale behind policymaking.
“It is a very important exercise to understand the different perspectives and the nature of the work that we do,” she added.
Mawphlang MLA Matthew Beyondstar Kurbah encouraged the youth to make the most of the opportunity, noting that such platforms build confidence and lasting skills. “All of you may not be politicians, but you will be speaking in many forums. The experience gained here will stay with you forever,” he said.
My Bharat Meghalaya Director Linda B.K. Sangma noted that festival, an initiative under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, reflects a collective commitment to empowering youth as active stakeholders in nation-building.
