Organisers of fishing competitions will now have to avail permission from the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).
KHADC CEM, Pyniaid Sing Syiem said this is as per the under the United Khasi Jaintia Hills district Fisheries Act 1954. He said the notification has been sent to all deputy commissioners of the five districts in the Khasi Hills, superintendent of police and the Himas.
The district council has also decided to reconstitute the Khasi Traditional Medicine Commissiom where traditional medicine practitioners who want to avail recognition will have to apply.
Syiem informed that the Khasi Medicine Institute at Lumsohpet Bneng will soon function. He said the project is almost explete with only a few minor sanitation works. “We have also sent a letter to the state government for a laboratory in the institute to ensure the safety, hygiene including the bottling, packaging and no side-effects aspects.
The KHADC will also hold the Monolith Festival in December to showcase the rich culture heritage of the Khasi people. He said that this time the monolith will be in collaboration with the state government and tourism department.
He also informed that an online portal will be launched next month as per the guidelines of the 15the Finance Commission so that all proposal and plan estimate in various constituencies including the submission of the UC certificates will be done on time.
An amount of Rs 1.50 crore to clear all pending arrears of eight former MDCs, staff, including retired ones have also been approved by the KHADC, which will be released likely next month, the CEM informed.
