Agriculture Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh today inaugurated the Ïalong Lay-by Market, located on National Highway 44, at Ïalong village. This is the first such lay-by market in the Jaiñtia Hills region and third in Meghalaya.
Jowai MLA Wailadmiki Shylla was also present on the occasion.
Lyngdoh said the market will benefit members of the public and the farmer community and thanked the residents of Ïalong for donating the land for the market’s construction.
Chairman of the Meghalaya Farmers (Empowerment) Commission, KN Kumar, informed that the market was created at a cost of Rs 71.43 lakh that was sanctioned under the Special Central Assistance scheme of 2014-15. The 3,800-plus square metre plot has 20 stalls that will be allocated on a rotational basis to farmers.
