The District Magistrate of East Khasi Hills has placed restrictions on the use of fireworks for the Christmas and New Year festivities.
The order was issued today under the BNSS. It prohibits the sale, purchase and procurement of crackers/fireworks producing bursting sound except Tarabatti (all types) and tubri (without sound) in all public places and public thoroughfares. The use of firecrackers and fireworks is only permitted from 12am to 12:30am on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
Their use, though, is banned in “silence zones”, namely 100 metres from hospitals, nursing homes, primary and district healthcare centres, educational institutions, courts, religious places, or any other zone declared a silence zone by the authorities.
