An FIR for spreading misinformation on the efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccine was today lodged against a person on a YouTube channel titled, ‘JovialJmarbz Channel.’
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Sylvester Nongtnger said that the person had circulated a video on YouTube which is against the Meghalaya High Court order and Section 54 of the Disaster Management Act. 2005 and the Epidemic Diseases Act 1897.
He said the case was registered at Sadar Police Station and legal necessary action is being undertaken against the accused. The SP has also urged people to refrain from uploading videos that spread misinformation.
It may be mentioned that the High Court in its order on June 23, 2021 said, “In the event, there is any attempt made by any person/organisation to spread misinformation regarding the efficacy of vaccination amongst the people of this State, the concerned authority of the State shall immediately step in and proceed against such person/organisation in accordance with law. The concerned authority of the State shall also bring such instances to the notice of this Court.”
