The Meghalaya Chamber of Commerce (MCC), Tura has filed an FIR with Tura police against a newly floated group known as All Garo People’s Federation (AGPF) for extorting money from shopkeepers of Tura market and assaulting them.
MCC said that members of AGPF are demanding Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 from each shop owner in and around Tura market.
“We have requested the police to arrest those goons as soon as possible in order to maintain peace during this festive season,” MCC said.
MCC, Tura said that it is an organisation established since 1985 to protect and safeguard the business community in Tura.
“Since ages the business community are facing this kind of problem regarding the collection of money, assault and threat but they kept quiet as they are afraid to complain to the authorities as they were intimidated by such groups,” MCC said.
