The president of the state’s Mahila Congress, Joplyn S Shylla, has taken issue with civil society activist Angela Rangad following a panel discussion the two were involved in.
Very few details were released by Shylla in a press release today, other than that she strongly opposed Rangad’s supposed assertion that the Jaintia people are not Khasis.
The subject of the discussion was Khasi social customs.
Khasis and Jaintias (or Pnars) together form part of the Hynniewtrep tribal community. They share any customs and traditions, although differences exist.
In her release, Shylla said that Rangad was the type of person who wants to split the Khasi-Jaintia community.
