The Institute of Bio-Resources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) Node, Meghalaya in association with Institute of Natural Resources, Meghalaya today conducted field training on Gaultheria fragrantissima (Fragrant Wintergreen; locally known as Jathynrait or Lathynrait) propagation under Himalayan Bio-Resources Mission at Mawbeh village, East Khasi Hills.
The training programme initiatives at IBSD Meghalaya and its headquarters at Imphal is led by IBSD director Prof. Pulok K. Mukherjee.
In this training program, propagation and cultivation of Gaultheria fragrantissima (Fragrant Wintergreen) was depicted by slide presentation followed by field demonstration of agri-practices to farmers of Mawbeh. A series of activities have been planned during the forthcoming time.
IBSD is organising a series of such programmes to promote local traditional medicinal plants propagation, cultivation aiming for livelihood generation under its various programmes.
Under the Himalayan Bio-Resources Mission various programmes are initiated related to advanced research focusing on agriculture, horticulture, medicinal and aromatic plants and microbial resources, while taking up translational research for societal development.
