The Federation of Khasi States (FKS) has sought an appointment with Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to follow up on his reported willingness to discuss issues arising out of the Annexed Agreement of the Instrument of Accession, signed by the Khasi states with the Union of India in 1948.
The FKS has been single-mindedly focused on the issue for several years. It claims that the description in the Constitution of the Khasi states being within Assam in the First Schedule is “a serious anomaly which is to be righted.”
This has relevance, FKS adviser and spokesman John F Kharshiing said in a press release today, because of the ongoing process to settle border disputes between Meghalaya and Assam.
