Shillong, Mar 30: The Court of M. K. Lyngdoh, Special Judge (POCSO), East Hills District sentenced a man to 30 years rigorous imprisonment for raping his own minor daughter.
The court in its verdict said Plen Mawlong will serve the remaining sentence of 29 years, eight months and 27 days in jail, as he was kept under judicial custody for three months and three days during the course of the trial. In default of fine, the convict will have to spend another three months in jail.
Additionally, the court also sentenced the man to seven years in prison under section 506 Para II IPC, dealing with threats of death, grievous hurt, destruction of property by fire, or allegations of unchastity. Under this, the man will have to undergo another three months in jail if he fails to pay the fine.
An FIR was filed against the father on December 16, 2013 at Mawsynram Police Station under section 5(I)(n)/6 POCSO Act, which was investigated by WPI B. M. Marak, presently posted in Crime Branch, Shillong.
The chargesheet was filed on February 26, 2014.
