The Hill Farmers’ Union (HFU) today expressed hope that deduction of the farmer’s produce will stop at all markets in Khasi Hills after the implementation of KHADC (Establishment, Management and Control of Markets) (Second Amendment) Regulation, Act 2021.
A delegation of HFU met KHADC executive member in charge markets Grace Kharpuri on the new market act recently approved by the Governor of Meghalaya.
Speaking to media persons, HFU president Commander Shangpliang said that they have high hopes that the implementation of the law will restrain the evil of deduction of the farmer’s produce that has continued for decades.
“We have always stood against the deduction of the farmer’s produce and we hope that with this act in place this will really address the problem,” he said.
Shangpliang also said that the implementation of the act should not create any kind of rift between the traders and farmers as everything is being done for overall benefit and everyone depends on each other.
