A training programme on integrated pest and disease management in paddy along with a method demonstration and input distribution was organised for farmers of West Garo Hills at Marapara village under Dalu block
The programme attended by 49 farmers was held on Friday under the NICRA project of the ICAR -Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK).
Aimed to promote sustainable and climate-resilient crop protection strategies, farmers were sensitised to eco-friendly approaches, particularly the use of beneficial microorganisms like Trichoderma for biological control and enhanced plant growth.
A method demonstration on seedling root dip treatment was conducted, showcasing how dipping paddy seedlings in a Trichoderma solution (@10 g/L of water) for around 30 minutes before transplanting can effectively suppress soil-borne pathogens and improve seedling vigour, root development, and nutrient uptake.
In addition, neem oil and fighter, a biopesticide, were introduced as effective tools for managing insect pests in paddy. To facilitate adoption of these practices, essential inputs such as Trichoderma, neem oil, and Fighter were distributed to all participating farmers.
CTO (Plant Pathology) Dr. Joyshree Mahanta and Dr. Sanjay Chetry (YP-II) facilitated the programme.
