Shillong, Dec 6: A five-day training programme on ‘Improved Resource Management Practices for Climate-Resilient Hill Farming’ was recently held for 30 famers under the Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) of ICAR-KVK in West Garo Hills district.
The programme highlighted a range of climate-smart agricultural practices such as soil health management, organic pest control, protected cultivation, biochar production, grassland restoration, fodder conservation, integrated fish farming, natural farming, horticultural innovations, millet-based nutrition, orchard management, and mushroom cultivation.
Technical sessions on Soil Health Management in hill ecosystems, integrated organic pest management, low-cost protected cultivation structures and techniques for producing low-cost biochar were conducted during the training programme.
Online sessions were also held on grassland importance and fodder conservation and a talk on climate-smart agripreneurship, integrated fish farming systems suited for climate adaptation, scientific orchard management practices for hill farmers.
Along with expert-led lectures and hands-on demonstrations, participants also visited the NICRA Village to observe field-level climate-resilient technologies.
Meanwhile, 15 Krishi Sakhis of Ri-Bhoi District were trained on natural farming from December 1 to 5.
The training programme was organised by the District Horticulture office in collaboration with ICAR-KVK, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam.
Hands-on training on different formulations for preparation of Jeevamrit, Beejamrit, Ghana jeevamrit, Neemastra, Agniastra, Dashaparni and their application in fields were introduced to the farmers. Exposure trips to ICAR farms were also conducted.
