Shillong, Mar 21: A five-day sponsored training programme on conservation and improvement of indigenous livestock and poultry was held for farmers of Umsaw Nongkharai village, Ri Bhoi district.
The training was held at KrishiVigyan Kendra (KVK), ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, which was sponsored by the Network Project on Animal Genetic Resources.
Twenty comprehensive lectures were delivered by various subject matter specialists, focusing on the importance of conserving indigenous breeds, scientific breeding practices, feeding and nutritional management, disease prevention, and value addition for better income generation.
To enhance practical understanding, seven field visits and hands-on demonstrations were arranged, exposing participants to improved livestock management techniques, housing systems, vaccination practices, natural farming and successful model farms within the ICAR campus.
The programme emphasised sustainable and climate-resilient farming practices, encouraging farmers to utilise locally adapted genetic resources effectively while improving productivity and livelihood security.
