A fake ‘Valentine’s Day Circular’ bearing the letter head of the ‘Bharatiya Janata Party, Meghalaya Pradesh’ has gone viral on social media.
The circular bearing the signature of the BJP national secretary, Arun Singh claims that the Valentine’s Day celebrations is against Indian culture and that it supports the stance of the Bajrang Dal. It also warned unmarried couples not to go out together and that if BJP comes to power in Meghalaya, western culture will be eliminated.
“The letter is highly despicable and completely fraud. The BJP has a very pragmatic view of all festivals and celebrations,” BJP Meghalaya tweeted in response to the fake circular.
“The letter is clearly a political weapon designed to create mistrust towards the BJP in the face of the upcoming assembly elections. We fear it is the work of some desperately scared political opponent,” the party said, adding it will issue a clarification and file a complaint against the letter.
