Shillong, Mar 28: The Department of Psychology and Wellbeing at Martin Luther Christian University organised a week-long program on the theme, “Culture and Psychology.”
This initiative brought together distinguished experts, faculty members, students, and alumni to delve into the intersections of culture, counseling, and psychological practice.
The program emphasized the importance of integrating cultural contexts into psychological discourse, offering participants insights and a deeper understanding of the role of culture in psychology and counseling.
The presence of renowned facilitators, Dr. Roy Moodley from the University of Toronto and Dr. Tony Sam George, director of Neuropathways in Bangalore, added depth and a global perspective to the discussions.
One of the standout moments was Dr Moodley’s engaging session titled “Diversity Matrix, Counseling, and Psychotherapy,” which facilitated thoughtful dialogue on multicultural competence in counseling.
Additionally, alumni from the department shared their experiences with their organization, “U Matter,” showcasing community-based initiatives and providing practical insights into applying psychological knowledge.
The week concluded with a public event featuring a compelling lecture by Dr. Moodley on Frantz Fanon, paired with a captivating drama performance based on local folklore.
