The Election Commission of India has exercised its power under the Representation of the People Act 1951 to order a ban on exit polls in relation to the deferred Sohiong Assembly seat election on May 10.
The ban will apply on that day from 7am to 6:30pm. No exit polls are to be published, publicised or conducted with regard to the election, which was deferred from February 27 on account of the death of a candidate, HDR Lyngdoh.
The ban applies to print or electronic media or to the dissemination in any other manner whatsoever.
Meanwhile, it was further informed that the display of any election matter, including the results of any opinion poll or any other poll survey, in any electronic media, will be prohibited during the period of 48 hours ending with the hours fixed for the conclusion of the poll.
