Shillong, Feb 24: The Department of Sericulture of East Garo Hills in collaboration with the Central Silk Board (CSB) Tura organised a one day event for eri, muga and other silk farmers in Williamnagar today.
The event saw a large turnout of farmers and entrepreneurs from the district, who showcased their finished products, a press release stated today.
Diana G Sangma, Additional Deputy Commissioner, was the chief guest and urged farmers and entrepreneurs to explore opportunities beyond their existing skills to expand their activities and earn more. She emphasised the importance of maintaining quality and acquiring silk marking and branding for their products.
During the technical session, Caliber M Marak, a retired CSB official, highlighted sericulture technologies. Sondarani A Sangma and Vivian A Sangma spoke about eri culture, while Mahananda Chutia, a CSB scientist, discussed the Seed Act.
