Exemptions granted to visiting VVIPs and others from getting tested for Covid-19 have been scrapped, the Meghalaya government announced today.
Previously, visiting constitutional authorities, visiting VVIPs, officials of central government departments and investigating officials from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), National Intelligence Agency (NIA) or Income Tax Department had enjoyed such exemptions, which have now been withdrawn with immediate effect, Principal Secretary of the Health Department, Sampath Kumar, said today.
This is due to the “rapid and alarming increase” in Covid-19 cases, including hospitalizations, across the country, he added.
