In response to the heinous murder of Kyrmen Lyngdoh Nonglait, a resident of Erpakon village in Ri-Bhoi, the Dorbar Pyllun of Erpakon has decided to direct all non-locals to leave the village.
The decision was taken at the village today wherein it was decided that all non-local workers employed at the RN Sharma Hotel should leave the village within a month.
Nonglait was murdered on May 11 in Erpakon. The chief suspect in the murder is Raj Rajbhar, an employee of the hotel. He and Nonglait had reportedly gotten intoxicated when an argument broke out and Rajbhar is alleged to have struck Nonglait with a plank.
The dorbar stated that the hotel should be operated solely by locals from the area.
Village headman, M. Thongni and general secretary Lambor Kharshilot stated that the decision is aimed to prevent such crimes in the future and to ensure the security of the tribal population.
Furthermore, the dorbar has resolved not to issue any no-objection certificates to non-tribals who intend to open up businesses within its jurisdiction.
