Shillong, Mar 24: NEIGRIHMS conducted a ‘National Emergency Life Support (NELS) Training of Trainers (ToT) Workshop’ for paramedics on March 18-20 in collaboration with the Jai Prakash Narayan Apex Trauma Centre (JPNATC) at AIIMS New Delhi.
The three-day workshop aimed at strengthening emergency care skills among healthcare professionals through standardised, simulation-based training. Twenty-seven participants attended the programme, including doctors and paramedics from NEIGRIHMS, Shillong Medical College and Civil Hospitals at Shillong, Jowai, Nongpoh and Nongstoin.
The training focused on enhancing the capacity of healthcare providers in managing trauma, cardiac, respiratory and other medical emergencies, thereby improving response time and quality of care in critical situations, a press release stated today.
The workshop also prepared participants to function as trainers, enabling them to further disseminate emergency life support skills in their respective institutions. The initiative is expected to significantly boost emergency care services in the region, ensuring better preparedness and improved patient outcomes across Meghalaya and the North East.
NEIGRIHMS Director Prof Nalin Mehta appreciated the collaboration with JPNATC and emphasised that such training programmes are essential for building a strong and skilled emergency care workforce in the North East and many such will be conducted regularly to build capacity in the entire region.
