The Power Department is thinking about conducting an audit of the electrical supplies of the iconic and heritage wooden structures in Shillong.
This was stated by Power Minister Abu Taher Mondal following the destruction of a number of iconic and old wooden structures in Shillong due to fire, especially electrical short circuit which is said to be the most common cause of fire in these incidents.
Even the recent incident at the century old Shillong Bar Association is said to have been caused by an electrical short circuit.
Mondal said that it is not possible for the department to check the power connection since individuals are using the electricity inside their own premises.
The minister however said that if anyone is having electrical issues in their premises, they should inform the MeECL about it so that the same can be addressed.
Asking people to be cautious and not allow overloading of electricity, Mondal said that the MeECL will immediately rectify any discrepancy whenever it is informed about it.
Asked about the eroded electric poles and tangling of wires visible in different parts of the city, he said that the power corporation immediately replaces eroded poles whenever complaints are received.
